Rotary evaporator how it works


Rotary evaporator is a commonly used evaporator product. The heating methods include electric heating, hot water heating, heat-conducting oil circulation heating, far infrared heating, outer (inner) coil heating, etc. The cooling method is jacket cooling and kettle inner pan Tube cooling, the form of stirring blades, etc., are widely used in industry, chemical industry, machinery, metallurgy and other fields.

Working principle of rotary evaporator:

Through electronic control, the flask is rotated at a constant speed at the most suitable speed to increase the evaporation area. The evaporation flask is under negative pressure by means of a vacuum pump. The evaporation flask is placed in a water bath for constant temperature heating while rotating, and the solution in the bottle is heated, diffused and evaporated in the rotating flask under negative pressure. The rotary evaporator system can be sealed and reduced to 400-600 mmHg; the solvent in the distillation flask is heated with a heating bath, and the heating temperature can be close to the boiling point of the solvent; it can also be rotated at a speed of 50-160 rpm, Make the solvent form a thin film to increase the evaporation area. In addition, under the action of a high-efficiency cooler, the hot vapor can be quickly liquefied to accelerate the evaporation rate.

 

Structure principle of rotary evaporator:

The distillation flask is a round-bottomed flask with a standard ground mouth interface, which is connected to a decompression pump through a serpentine condenser tube, and the reflux condenser tube is connected to a receiving flask with a ground mouth to receive the evaporated organic solvent. There is a three-way piston between the condenser tube and the vacuum pump. When communicating with the vacuum pump, the equipment should be in a decompression state. When in use, the pressure should be reduced first, and then the motor should be turned on to rotate the distillation flask. When it is finished, the machine should be shut down and then the vacuuming should be stopped to prevent the distillation flask from falling off during rotation. As a heat source for distillation, it is often equipped with a corresponding constant temperature water tank.

 

Operating specification of rotary evaporator:

1. Power connection: Insert the power plug of the power strip connected with the rotary evaporator and the vacuum pump and the power plug of the water bath into the power socket.

2. Add water: Ensure that the water level in the water bath is 4/5 of the volume of the bath.

3. Turn on the power switch: turn on the power switch on the main body of the rotary evaporator and the power switch of the water bath.

4. Set the temperature of the water bath: There is a knob in front of the water bath. Rotate it to adjust the temperature of the water bath. The position indicated by the arrow is the set temperature.

5. Waiting for the water bath to heat up: When the red heating indicator of the water bath is on, it means that the temperature has not reached the set temperature. When the red indicator turns to green, it means that the temperature has reached the set temperature. 6. Fix the evaporating flask: connect the evaporating flask to the ground end of the anti-explosive ball, hold the evaporating flask with one hand to prevent the flask from falling, press the clamp down to make the clamp buckle the evaporating flask mouth, turn the clamp clockwise to fix the evaporation bottle.

7. Adjust the position of the evaporating flask: press the operating lever down to slightly immerse the evaporating flask in the water bath. 8. Turn on the condensate: adjust the flow rate to make the condensate flow moderate.

9. Adjust the speed: There is a knob on the top of the rotary evaporator main body, through which the speed can be adjusted to a proper value.

10. Turn on the vacuum pump: After confirming that the vent valve is closed, turn on the vacuum pump.

11. Evaporation: Wait for the instrument to complete the rotary evaporation operation. If the solvent boils too fast, quickly lift the evaporating flask and leave the water bath. After the boiling stops, press the operating lever down to immerse the evaporating flask in the water bath.

12. Remove the evaporating flask: After the rotary steaming is finished, turn off the vacuum pump, adjust the speed to zero, turn off the condensate, and open the vent valve. After the internal and external pressures are balanced, hold the evaporating flask with one hand and turn the clamp counterclockwise while turning the clamp until the clamp is loose. Remove the evaporating flask after opening.

13. Turn off the vacuum pump, water bath switch, and host switch.

14. Unplug the power plug.
