Centrifuge how it works

How does centrifuge works

Centrifuge is a machine that uses centrifugal force to separate liquid and solid particles or each component in a mixture of liquid and liquid. The centrifuge is mainly used to separate the solid particles in the suspension from the liquid, or to separate the two incompatible liquids in the emulsion with different densities (for example, separating cream from milk); it can also be used to remove Liquids in wet solids, such as using a washing machine to spin dry wet clothes; special ultra-velocity tube separators can also separate gas mixtures of different densities; use the characteristics of different density or size of solid particles in the liquid to settle at different speeds, some sediment The centrifuge can also classify solid particles according to density or particle size.

Centrifugation technology In the biological sciences, especially in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology, centrifuges have been widely used. Every biochemistry and molecular biology laboratory must prepare many types of centrifuges. Centrifugation technology is mainly used for the separation and preparation of various biological samples. The biological sample suspension is placed in a centrifuge tube under high-speed rotation. Due to the huge centrifugal force, the suspended tiny particles (such as the precipitation of organelles, biological macromolecules, etc.) ) Settling at a certain speed to be separated from the solution.

Classification of centrifuges:

According to the size of the speed, it can be divided into: low-speed centrifuge, high-speed centrifuge and ultra-high-speed centrifuge.

Low-speed centrifuge: a centrifuge with a high speed of less than 10000rpm/min. The low-speed centrifuge can be widely used in clinical medicine, immunology, blood stations and other fields, and is a conventional instrument for centrifugal precipitation in the laboratory.

High-speed centrifuge:

The high speed is (10000rpm/min-30,000rpm/min). High-speed centrifuges are conventional laboratory centrifuges, which are widely used in biology, chemistry, medicine, scientific research and education, and production departments.

Ultra high speed centrifuge:

The high speed is (>30000rpm/min). The application range is not very wide.

According to temperature requirements, it is divided into: ordinary centrifuge and refrigerated centrifuge.

Ordinary centrifuge

Ordinary centrifuges do not have a refrigeration system. The temperature of the centrifuge chamber of an ordinary centrifuge is generally about 5° higher than the temperature of the laboratory environment.

Refrigerated centrifuge

The refrigerated centrifuge is equipped with a refrigerated centrifuge, and the temperature range is controlled between -20 and 40 degrees (in order to protect the material from deteriorating during the centrifugation process).
